How important are U shaped neck pillows are on airplanes?
Im flying from boston to australia and new zealand and on the way back stopping in hawaii…that’s around 45 hours on a plane. do you think a neck pillow will be useful/necessary? what is your experience with them? I just don’t want to bring something that takes up so much space if im not really going to use it. Thanks!

Extremely important for long flights. The last thing you want is to have a stiff neck when you get off of the plane in AU ! I would recommend the travel u shaped pillows because you can rest comfortably in the seated position- and they are not difficulty to carry with your baggage.

One recommendation though- test it out before you leave. Figure out: do you like foam or fiber?
Do you want a full rectangular pillow (mini regular pillow) OR a u-shaped pillow?
Safe Journies to you !
I’m sure it helps some people. I’ve only ever been on a 19 hour flight, so I can’t say for sure how useful it will or won’t be over the course of 45 hours. But for me, the pillow they offer you in-flight works just as well.
Good luck, and have fun!
They are most comfortable. They do sell the inflatable kind if you are worried about space.
Those pillows are nice as they keep your neck relatively steady and don’t allow your head to fall forward, snapping you awake in the process. If you have a window seat, you can always prop up a pillow against the side of the fuselage and sleep that way but if you’re seated anywhere else, those pillows come in handy.
i had a long haul flight without one and i didnt feel like i was missing anything however they look comfy and if i had 45 hours of flight ahead of me, i would probably get one
They provide neck support and are very useful on long flights. Buy inflatable ones.
I spend about 350 hours a year on planes and have never bothered to buy a pillow or bring a pillow with me. Most of the planes I fly on do not even offer pillows. I don’t feel like I am missing anything. However not having one, makes travel much easier. I always see people struggling with them, dropping them, fussing over them.
trust me you will regret it if you don’t bring it.
even when going on 2.5hr flights i HAVE to have mine.
