Travel advice from wise people? Help!!!!?
Ok, well I have NEVER been on an airplane. I’m 16, and this summer I’m going to Costa Rica with spanish teachers, and then after I get back from that 2 week trip, I’m flying to Florida BY myself to be a nanny for about a month…I’m so nervous!!
Any advice about air travel? And more advice about when I go by myself? I’m way scared…also, what to pack? Can you bring a pillow and blanket with you on the plane?

You’ll be fine! I travel alone to Costa Rica every summer to visit my dad! Just make sure you have something to do in the airport, because there’s loads of waiting around. Bring your iPod or a book or something, or buy a magazine. As long as you’ve got something to do, you also don’t need to worry about being scared on the plane. It’s not frightening at all, but a book could distract you if you do get freaked out. Since you’re going alone, just stick with your luggage and don’t talk to people you don’t know. If a stranger talks to you, be polite but don’t engage too much. If you’re worried about anything, ask a flight attendant – they’re so sweet to kids traveling alone! And yeah, you can bring your own pillow and blanket – definitely do, it makes the flight wayyyy comfier, and then you don’t have to pay for the airline blankets, which cost money now.
I have a friend who was once in the same situation as you. She was flying from London to Paris, which is only a short flight, and still she was inconsolable. When she got home she told me the only thing that kept her going on the plane was to eat Starburst. Strange coping strategy but you might want to give it a go! Good luck, you’ll be fine:)
PS: That same friend is now an air hostess on the long haul flights, so I think it’s just a fear you get over after some experience.
