Why do passengers complain about the airline discontinuing the supply of pillows & blankets on board flights?
Why would you want to use a pillow or blanket used by a previous passenger who may have coughed, sneezed, spit, or Got knows what else? Why not travel with your own? Airlines have less than an hour, without a delay, to turn a flight and get it ready for the next group of passengers. Because of cut backs, removing pillows and blankets and replacing them with new ones are left in the ancient years.

For short haul flights of up to 3 hours there’s no need for pillows, blankets or food. Medium range 4-6 hours it would depend on the time of day, for example a red eye from LA to NY a pillow and blanket would be in order, fresh ones of course. Long haul international flights of 7+ hours most definitely the airline should provide a pillow and blanket. I’ve done two long hauls this year, two different airlines, and have been provided fresh blanket (wrapped in plastic) and fresh pillow.
However, regardless of the flight’s duration or timing with normal sleeping schedules, the cabin temperature is more often than not very cool and people get cold inflight. Though knowing that they should dress appropriately. I always wear long pants and have a sweater or jacket as well as a pair of socks in my carry-on. Layer your clothes because every once in a while you get a hot flight.
I agree its not a bad idea to travel with your own pillow and blanket but I tend to like to travel light so for me thats just extra stuff to bring and drag around with me.
idk I don’t see why people are complaining about pillows and blankets…there is no need for them, the seats are comfy enough for your head they feel like a pillow…if your cold put on a sweatshirt or something lol….Most people complain about them serving meals or carry ons being charged for soon and not free…me I don’t care about the food or drinks, I try not to eat or drink anything while in the air 32,000 ft. and just wait til I land……..but I do think it’s a little over the top to charge for a carry on when it should be free and flying is so expensive already as it is
The airlines I travel on always dry clean the blankets and launder the pillow slips after use. When they are handed out, they are clean, smell fresh and wrapped in cellophane. Passengers have become accustomed to receiving service. Airlines that scrimp are going to lose customers in the future.
If they turned the wick up on the cabin temperature no-one would complain but currently if you are sitting in the rear of a 747-400 on a transatlantic flight West-East there’s a cold "waterfall" of air that even wearing a lounge suit and two blankets of dubious history isn’t enough to keep the cold out. Think I’ll be taking a 10.5 tog duvet next time.
Most airlines did give out clean pillows and blankets. I’m sure people complain about the airlines no longer handing out pillows and blankets for the same reason they complain about the lack of service, no more complimentary meals and drinks and higher prices.
Many people don’t want to travel with their own pillows and blankets, they prefer to use their carry on allowances for other items.
Btw, most international airlines, at least the good ones, still provide clean pillows and blankets.
Having to carry your own pillow and blanket can not be a convenience. Passengers are upset because they enjoyed the amenity of having free pillows and blankets.
Let’s see… They are limiting the amount of carry-ons people can have and charging for some of it as well. Of course we all want to lug around (and pay for) bedding.
