Parents with children in ALL DAY preschool or daycare that require a pillow or blanket?
What type of blanket and pillow do you take for your child? We were using the travel pillow and a small blanket from home but because it has to be washed every weekend the zipper on the pillow gave out. I was looking into purchasing a nap mat and wanted to know if anyone had purchased one and what your opinion was. They are terribly expensive and I would like have some input before investing in one.
Okay maybe I need to clarify- he already attends a preschool and takes naps daily. They take naps on cots that are washed down every weekend with a bleach solution. As a parent, we are required to bring a blanket and pillow from home and take these items home every weekend and wash them. The zipper on the pillow he had broke becasue the pillow is washed every weekend and instead of buying another small pillow (or in this case several since it seems like they are going to keep breaking) I thought about buying a nap mat or a bed roll that has a pillow attached to a blanket. I wanted to know if anyone had purchased one and what they thought. It has to be durable and able to be washed at least once a week.

i had to look up what you meant by "nap mat" i pictured one of those tumbling mats in a gym type things, lol (that’s what i had growing up)
i don’t have kids in a daycare, but my MIL quilted a "nap mat" for each of my girls. it doesn’t have a zipper, but folds in on itself to make a pillow. i’ve seen similar products that fold into itself to make a backpack.
if you know anyone that quilts/sews they could make you one.

Having worked in child care: you may not need to provide a mat if the daycare has them – most do; if yours doesn’t, the mats are fairly durable and worth the price. They need to be cleaned with bleach solution at least weekly in the germ laden environment of a child care center.
Purchase an inexpensive pillow/blanket that your child will be comfortable with. When stored at daycare during the week, accidents can happen and art supplies or bleach stains can ruin the design – so you sure don’t want it to be something special.
Continue to wash the bedding and pillow weekly to rid them of lingering germs.
At my son’s daycare he is given a cot and we don’t give pillows but they will let us give blankets. A regular children’s blanket. I try to avoid the adult size cuz they’re HUGE for these little bodies. They send them home every Friday and we wash and return on Monday. If a child brings a pillow, they send it home, it’s washed and returned.
I myself wouldn’t buy a nap mat. Daycare provides that so we’re okay.
I used to work in a day care and actually the day care workers would wash the blankets, pillows, and the pillow cases every friday…no other kid touched them…they also slept on cots which is a small bed off the ground…if you are concernd about this talk to your day care worker and see wat they provide…theres plenty of good day cares out there…some you may just have to travel a little more to get too…
The option that we had offered was washing and drying every week. We washed the cots as well. and we offered the parent the choice to take them every friday and wash them at home..but they were to sure they had them on monday or we would have them bring in an extra set the week we changed…
we also made parents bring new sheets and pillows in on the first of every month…
what i did was just use a regular pillow with a case over it. they only required washing the blanket and case not the actual pillow.
